- Growth habit: low and spreading
- How to propagate: tip cuttings and layering the spreading side shoots
- Leaf type: small rounded leaves
- Ways to use it such as in a pot or otherwise: grows exceedingly well in a pot, especially trailing over the rim of a pot where its flowers will show beautifully; is a good companion in a large pot with other summer flowers; makes a fine edging plant in the sunny garden
Not a weed, this is low and spreading, but never too fast. The lavender flowers appear in waves all summer on older plants. At night the flowers spiral-up to close, like little blue umbrellas (bumpershoots to you Seattle-ites). Prefers sun but will take light shade. Grows four to six inches high and spreads to two or three feet. Several planted in a group make an extraordinary edging, as we do in one of our gardens. Has survived to 0°F (USDA Zone 7a or 6b). It is a spectacular ground cover for a sunny site or as a summer container filler. |
